Nikomahi M. “Nikki” “Mary” (Carelis) Costas, 84, Worked at Peter's Sweet Shop

Nikki” “Mary” (Carelis) Costas, 84, of Haverhill, died Saturday, Sept. 2, at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston.She was born in Haverhill, Sept. 2, 1932, daughter of the late Kleovolos and Irene (Tickelis) Carelis. Educated in the Haverhill school system, Costas graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1950, and attended the former MacIntosh Business School. Prior to her marriage she was employed as an office worker and, after her marriage, was employed at the former Peter’s Sweet Shop as well as for area bakeries.She was a longtime member of Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church.She was the wife of the late Michael Costas, who died in 1999, and her survivors include two sons, Michael Costas, Jr. of Haverhill, and Steven Costas and his wife Susan of Lawrence; two brothers, Charles Carelis and his wife June of Billerica, and Nicholas Carelis of Haverhill; three step-grandchildren, Kelly McNamara and her husband Scott, Michael McLaughlin and Kerrie LaBroad and her husband Chris; four great grandchildren, Delaney and Dorie McNamara and Jack and Reid LaBroad; niece, Michelle Carelis; two nephews, Paul Carelis, who was also her God son, and Peter Carelis.Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours Friday morning, Sept. 8, from 9:30 to 11, in Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter St., Haverhill, followed by a funeral service at 11, in the church. Burial is in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill and Bradford. Tony A. Cassell, 72, Owned Cassell's Restaurant, Prima D'Italia

Cassell, 72, of Wentworth, N.H., and formerly of Haverhill, died Saturday morning, Aug. 26, at West Roxbury VA Hospital.He was born in Saco, Maine, Oct. 20, 1944, son of the late Tony and Virginia (Allan) Cassell. His family moved to Haverhill when he was young and he was educated in the Haverhill school system, graduating from Haverhill High School.Cassell served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War and earned a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Oak Cluster, a Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Purple Heart with 1 Oak Cluster. He was employed as a chef in the local food industry and owned and operated the former Cassell’s Restaurant as well as Prima D’Italia, both in Haverhill. He moved to Wentworth 15 years ago and enjoyed fishing and animals.His survivors include his wife of 39 years, Alice (Curtis) Cassell of Wentworth, N.H.; two sons, Shawn Cassell and his fiancé Jill Russell of Bradford and Joshua Cassell of Wentworth, N.H.; daughter, Nicole Cassell of Haverhill; four brothers, Gene Cassell of Haverhill, Michael Cassell of Lewiston, Maine, Kenny Cassell of Haverhill and Leo Cassell of Haverhill; sister, Beverly Gilliam of Virginia Beach, Virg.;  grandson, Isaiah Cassell of Bradford; two uncles, Leo and Gordon Allan; as well as several nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Thursday, Aug. 31, from 5 to 8 p.m., at H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. His funeral service is Friday, Sept. 1, at 1:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in the Veteran’s section of Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
